As Nurtured Beatz prepares to take over the basement in Plan B together with In-reach.co.uk on Friday, we wanted to know a little bit more about the label and the night.

Hello Spindall and thank you for answering my questions!

Hi guys thanks for the opportunity.

What’s been going on in the world of Spindall and Nurtured Beatz lately?

It’s been a busy year so far at the label. We released our debut album back in April, “Brand New World” as well as EPs from Dexta & Mauoq & Interline. We also have an EP out this month from Antagonist & Paragon. Aswell as all that we have had 3 really good parties so far this year in partnership with In-Reach mag which seems to be going from strength to strength. Other highlights was having a Nurtured Beatz party across seas in Tallinn, Estonia – shouts out to the Bassiohtu crew for that one!

Most people might already be familiar with Nurtured Beatz but for those who aren’t – what would you say Nurtured Beatz is all about?

A simple answer: good music, good vibes and always searching to find new talent. We aren’t afraid to work with people who don’t already have a career, and are all about quality music.

I’ve always wondered about the logo for Nurtured Beatzโ€ฆ what can you tell me about it?

My long term friend Paul Clayton came up with it back in 2008 when we were doing the first ever party. There’s no real story behind it, guess it just tied in with the word Nurtured. Nurtured Beatz; the name means to nurture, craft & take care of the music you are working on with thought & passion. Guess it’s kinda like nurturing a child and watching it grow.

Big night ahead for Nurtured Beatz and In-reach.co.uk at Plan B, tell me how that collab came about.

Dan the owner came down to a couple of parties last year and really enjoyed them. He’s also a fan of the music we release so we struck up a friendship and it just seemed natural to work together. In-Reach is a really strong online mag who, like us, is run by people who have a genuine passion for the music so it made sense.

Great looking line up with a few names I’ve never seen before – what made you book these artists?

Every one you see on a line up will have had a release with the label or have one coming with the exception of Nick EP & Spectrum who are part of In-reach & Rude FM – the same station Kalm and I play on – so there’s the family connection there. We use the night to showcase the labels talent, so that old saying ‘if you don’t know, get to know’…

What kind of drum&bass can we expect on the night?

Can expect deep n dark rolling from the likes of myself, Interline, Kyrist, Kalm, Carera, Tephra & Arkoze etc. Genotype will bring his signature sound with the old classic thrown in. You never know what to expect from him, that’s why I love his sets. Also Yung E who may not be a name on everyone’s radar yet, but I’ve know him for 16 years and he has a massive history in production of garage, dub step and others. He had massive garage tunes as a youngster including the cult smash “Pulse X” as part of Musical Mob & later success in dub step as part of soundproof. Like me, he came up young through jungle and went down the garage route. He’s back on dnb now and already put out realeses on Proximity recs and one forthcoming with us, so I’m really looking forward to hear what he brings in his set.

Who will enjoy going to Plan B for this?

Anyone who likes a funktion one sound system with good dnb coming out of it and good vibes.

What producer should we keep our ears open for especially?

Interline. At 19 years old I see him as a big part of the future of dnb.

Any forthcoming releases we shouldn’t miss?

Anagonist & Paragon “Deadly Design EP” out October 20th, also check Interline’s Mentality EP that’s out now , Dexta & Mauoqs EP & the album. All available from our Bandcamp Store.

You’ve won a million pounds on hosting a night – How would you spend it?

Oh that’s a tough one, a rave on the moon? Dunno lol

Any famous last words?

Keep supporting the label we need new socks

Thanks!
