Tomorrow you better get yourself to Brixton and down to the basement at Plan B where Sub:side and Horizon Music have put together a wicked line up. What you need to know is right here.
Who are the people behind Sub:side?
Sub:side is a trio of promoters; myself Rob aka In:Vision, Alex aka Lofite and our good friend Ryan. For this night with Horizons we’ve also been lucky to have their head honcho Neil on board helping to arrange some of the artist link ups and we also have to thank Alex and Dave from Organic (ORGANIC BEATS) who’ve given us a lot of backing by handling the online features, mixes and interviews leading up to this night. Plus their experience in putting events on themselves has been of great help to us!
How long have you done the nights?
This night actually marks our first year anniversary! We started back last October at Shoredtich’s Gramaphone (RIP) and it’s fair to say that though like any start up things began slowly attendances wise, the atmosphere and vibe at those first couple of nights we did was definitely special, especially considering we were running on a Monday! Since then though things have come a long long way as anyone who attended August’s night will know. It’s been hard work but so enjoyable every step of the way, and we’re only just getting started!
On this night you are working with Horizon Music, how come?
We were fortunate for this partnership to come about really- Horizons were looking to launch themselves as a night as well as a label and we were more than happy to be the ones to get them going in London once asked! It’s been a strong partnership- Horizons is definitely one of the select few labels that can boast having not only quality but diversity across it’s entire back catalogue, with the only unifying characteristic of it’s releases being a tendency to lean towards the more experimental, deeper and musical sides of the genre that we’re all big fans of here!
The line up looks amazing, tell us more about that…
The lineup was hand-picked by us as being four of Horizons’ very finest talents, and representing probably just about every corner of the & bass sounds that we’re feeling at the moment. Headlining the night will be Naibu with a rare UK appearance (his first in over two years I believe) and we have so much faith in the amount of incredible music he’ll have at his disposal that we’ve given him a 90 minute set to work with. He’s very much a figurehead of what Horizons is about in my opinion, and with his
ย second album on the label set to drop next month this is the perfect time to have him on board and a chance for a real sneak peak of some future drum & bass for those in attendance! We also have Triad with another rare UK performance. They’ve been making waves in the house scene recently but trust me they are still making some seriously good music at 170bpm- some of their forthcoming tunes just need to be heard to be believed! Truly a unique set of producers that epitomise what Sub:side is about musically as a night. On top of this June Miller will be coming down for what I expect to be a massively varied set. Their productions have ranged from really spaced-out minimal to much harder, dancefloor orientated sounds and personally I can’t wait to see what they’ve got instore. There will be a special treat of some live instrument accompaniment alongside them but I’m not going to say anymore than that for now, you’ll just have to make sure you’re there to catch it! Meanwhile Horizons stalwart Data will be showcasing his unique take on the genre- another artistwith an album in the pipeline and another one who I can guarantee will deliver a top set filled with musical gems! Finally Alexander and Suspect from Organic as well as myself and Loftie from Sub:side will be on warm-up duties, spinning some deeper flavours and plenty of unreleased exclusives. MCs on the night are Code:breaker, Fokus, Deefa and Matah.
And finally, Rob, what can we expect on this night?
Purely deep, experimental, musical and soulful 170bpm bass music. The very very finest of everything that’s good about drum & bass at this moment in time, that’s the Sub:side policy!
Thank you!
