Please tell me a little about yourself and how you ended up being a DJ and producer?
I’m Sweetpea, i am 25 and live in South London. I first started Djing garage when i was 12 in my mates basement. Took me a year of my paper round to save up the money, but i got my own decks at 13. I enjoyed mixing a bit of everything from hip hop to reggee.
Once i stepped into my first rave (Hospitality @ Heaven) i knew i had found something special. I saved up again to get myself a pair of technics and became an avid vinyl junkie.
Your DJ name, what can you tell me about that?
Its one of them things, having to sit and think of not only a name but a decent name. My Mum used to call me Sweetpea as a kid, and it was actually her that put the idea in my head. Plus its nice to sway people into thinking i’m going to play nice music :) Dont judge a book by its cover :)
What is your goal or dream in life?
World Peace :)
I know you are a bit of a raver – what is more fun; to go out raving or to DJ?
If you had asked me 5/6 years ago i would have said raving but i think now, i’ve got to say Djing. Nothing like playing drums on a big system, plus when you’ve finished your set, you can go join your mates raving! 2 birds 1 stone :)
Any forthcoming releases or big nights to look out for?
Myself and PRTCL have been busy working lots in the studio for the last few months. We’ve been working on some collab and individual projects, so fingers crossed, i might get my first release in the future. Although i have been djing for a long while, I’ve only been producing since the beginning of this year. I think once you make that step you start listening to Dnb completely differently.
Flexout Vs Diffrent Music on Dec 13th at Plan B. They’re going to be flying Fre4nc over for his UK debut, both labels are doing really well at the moment. I will be there in Christmas jumper and all :)
You’ve done a wicked mix! What can you tell us about it?
The mix is full of new and unreleased music, lots of forthcoming Flexout bits and some choons I’m feeling at the moment. I’d probably say this mix sums up my favourite style of DnB.
Any famous last words?
TOGETS for days
Thank you!
