Drum+Basics had a few words with drum&bass/dubstep producer Joe Protocol who made this 30 minutes Spring Promo Mix which you can download for free.

Who are you? Hi my name’s Joe London, i’m 25 years old and I’m based in East London. I’ve been mixing and making beats for about 5 years now.

How did you start? I started producing on a copy of Reason 3 and decided to upgrade to Logic about 3 years ago after realising how much better it is for making beats on. I still run a copy of Reason as a plug in for Logic these days though. I also mix on vinyl as i’m a fiend for large circular bits of plastic with sound grooves on them.

Why do you do it? Well, I went to my first rave at Fabric (like a lot of people do) in my first year of Uni, and was instantly hooked into the music. My first love was skateboarding and I was doing that for about 6 years previous to making music, but when I came up to London to study I just couldn’t stay away from the music, and I still can’t today. For that reason, I know I’m doing the right thing.

What’s your top 3 tracks? That’s a tough question… I can give you the top 3 tunes I can think of off the top of my head.
