Disco77: A release roundup

Halloween is supposed to be a truly terrifying time of year and and after looking at the sheer number of new releases out today my bank balance has had the fright of its life!ย  So this week rather than try and write reviews, Iโ€™m going to run through my pick of the weekโ€™s new releases.

Aside from the High Contrast release which Iโ€™ve written a whole article about, the other heavyweight release of the week comes from the Playaz camp and Original Sinโ€™s Move EP. This offers a diverse mix of tracks which will move a lot of floors, branching from Dubstep, Electro Liquid, and his trademark โ€˜Loading Spectrum 48k game fighting a broken microwaveโ€™ sound.ย  The stand outs for me on the EP are โ€˜So Specialโ€™ which is traditional jump up Original Sin, ‘Moveโ€™ which feels like the bass is literally dripping on your head and I do like the old school elements in the Dub Step track ‘Air Raid’ which to me are reminiscent of probably one of the original records from the scene Lennie De Iceโ€™s โ€˜We Are Eโ€™. Well worth a look in and for 6 tracks itโ€™s a bargain!

V Recordings on a roll at the moment, (I am very jealous with the owners of this website who attended Cable for their Halloween party last Saturday!) and releases from the label and its subsidiaries are flying out at the moment. The latest release sees V artist Artificial Intelligence get a couple of tracks remixed and the King of Subs Mr Dillinja steps up to deliver a heavyweight assault on the ear drums on his remix of ‘Uprising’ which will cause chaos and devastation on the dance floor. The flip Pigeon Hole whilst not as heavy, is still a fine little roller and worthy addition to your box.

On a similar vibe is the release of Crucial by Coda, which offers both the original and a remix by Savage Rehab. The original is a dark stabby affair which is guaranteed to make the crowd brock out, whereas the remix offers a lighter interpretation whilst keeping the menacing undertones of the original.

Home of Twisted Individual Zombie Recordings, brings a new release from an artist known as Mugabe (One of TIโ€™s pseudonyms per chance?) which offers a couple of wonderful deep, dark and dirty little forays into Drum and Bass. I really love Werewolves on Wheels, which kind of sounds like you’d imagine Both tracks tick all the right boxes for me and Iโ€™d say this well worth a look.

The rather marvellous remix by the Killabits of Helicopter Showdown Ft. Messinianโ€™s โ€“ Great Escape is another song Iโ€™d previously not heard any hype about, but upon hearing it realised it was something that I needed to pick up. Itโ€™s an energetic, vibrant little Drumstep warbler, and itโ€™s always nice to have a good vocal/song over a track.

On the Ragga DnB tip this week, we have Silent Code feat The Ragga Twins โ€“ Dutty Gal. This is a harder than usual take on the Ragga DnB sound which is deep and dark, and accompanied by the unmistakeable sound of the Ragga Twins vocals. Have to say it’s very reminiscent of Tarantula in places, and that’s not a bad thing! Well worth a listen and a useful addition to your collection.

If you like the Delta Heavy sound, you really need to pick up DWBโ€™s New Planet EP. Iโ€™m loving the โ€˜Deadlineโ€™ track with itโ€™s pure โ€˜c-u-m-face crazinessโ€™ bassline and vibe. This track has been known to kill goats (It doesnโ€™t, I just made that up), and will destroy crowds. Again, itโ€™s another track that seemed to slip under the radar until release but Iโ€™d really recommend this one.

Two notable remixes of non-original DnB productions this week come in the form of the Cinematic Remix of The Mike Delinquent Projectโ€™s โ€˜Out of Controlโ€™ (Non DnB fact, if MDP is not massive in 2012 I will eat my digital music collection. If you like to diversify your music, go check out some of his recent releases and remixes). Think a Netsky style remix of a UKG banger and youโ€™d be there, KCatโ€™s vocals soaring over electronic melodies and energetic beats.ย ย ย  Sara Cruzโ€™s โ€“โ€˜ Every Songโ€™ gets the Playaz treatment in the form of a Crystal Clear remix, and this reminded me a little of the Loadstar remix of Jess Millโ€™s Live What I Die For. If that floated your boat, Iโ€™d more than advise you pick this up too.

A special mention must go to the soulful vibes of Atlantic Connection’s Wonderful Life. I’m a sucker for old soul samples over rolling breaks and this is another one that goes straight into my collection. Featuring on the Fokus and friends Vol1 EP which also has some other stuff from the likes of Eveson, it’s well worth checking out.

If that wasnโ€™t enough, there were also two massive albums released this week. First up is โ€˜The Make Way for the New Generationโ€™ LP on Talking Beatz which brings forth a mass of tracks from the destined to be massive โ€˜Fred V & Grafixโ€™, ‘Hectix’ and โ€˜Genetic Brosโ€™ as well as more established artists like KG.ย  If you like your music dance floor friendly, hands in the air happy, and brighter than the sun this is an album for you.

Drum and Bass Arena celebrate their 15th Anniversary with another album which collects together a massive amount of tracks from the last decade and a half.ย  If youโ€™re looking to educate yourself, boost your music collection, or just pick up digital versions of worn out vinyl, this is a release for you. Plus youโ€™ll also pick up a mix from AMC, and a couple of other mixes for your collection. Quite frankly at ยฃ5.99 this is an absolute steal, especially if you donโ€™t own any of the tracks that feature on it.

Iโ€™ve only touched the surface with the new releases this week, but Iโ€™m off for a lay down after writing two massive articles.

Until next week!
