The title says it all really. Dispatch Recordings are celebrating 10 years, Ant TC1 will tell you the story…
So Ant, tell me how it all started 10 years ago!
It was Hidden Agenda who originally started the whole thing off with me learning the ropes initally and supporting him where I could, Jason from Hidden Agenda then had a change of plans and started a family so he asked me to take it over fully and here I am now!
In which ways have the scene changed in your opinion? Both for you as a DJ but also having a record label.
The internet has changed it all MASSIVELY and the way people buy, not as many people hunt for music any more like they did in the old days, most get it presented to them via the internet and choose from a big bundle of digital music and click and buy!
How would you describe the process of getting a tune/artist out on your label? Do you contact the artists or do they come to you?
Its a bit of both really, sometimes I’ve helped artists finish stuff off and given them some feedback on getting a track where i felt it needs to be for the better of the track and others have come out of nowhere and i’ve been more than overwhelmed on first listen, the main thing for me is regardless of the process we get that track to that quality bar or that point we think it needs to be at.
What can we look forward to from Dispatch in a near future?
We have a Marcus Intalex 12″ out now, Dispatch Limited 4 drops next week. On the 14th of November we have our celebratory 10 years of Dispatch Recordings EP; which from the feedback looks like its gonna do well. Then we have a gigantic remix to cap the year off from Cern & Dabs who have re-worked Octane & DLR’s “Back in the Grind” to cap the year off. All the tunes are getting lots of support so I’m really pleased.
You will celebrate the 10 Years at Club Wire in Leeds where you have your monthly club Momentum, what can we expect on the night?
A lot of loud music at punishing levels through the immense Funktion 1 system! We have a hell of a lot of Dispatch recordings nights celebrating 10 years all over the shop (including Southampton on 28.10 as well as Leeds!) so I feel great about it all at the moment, we’re off to Munich GE, London (twice), Nottingham, Plymouth, Birmingham, Leeds (again!), Bristol, Turnbridge Wells, Brighton, Ghent BE & Lyon FR.
What do you got planned for you and Dispatch in 2012?
We have a Dabs EP in January, more from Skeptical & Fokus, some monster bits from Survival & Silent Witness who will be using a new band name (and maybe even getting the keyboards out on tour to be a proper band who knows!), a potential Octane & DLR EP, a bit from Arkaik who won the Octane & DLR sample pack competition, Dub Phizix, more from Safire along with Borderline, Cern & Mayhem, Amoss and I’m exhausted reeling these names off now! Basically A LOT of what I think is good music, I hope other people agree, I also hope to find time to get myself back in the studio to blow some cobwebs off.
Anything you want to add?
Thanks for doing this interview and supporting us!
Thank you Ant!
