Exclusive interview and free tune: BPSK

Hello BPSK! Thank you for answering my questions for us!bpsk

Forgive our english, weโ€™ll do the best to tell things in a good way :) Weโ€™re better at making beats!

Hello Jenny, Itโ€™s Bernard and Greg from the BPSK Duo. Itโ€™s a great pleasure for us, thank you.

How did you you end up being a producer/DJ and how long have you been producing music?

Bernard: I discovered electronic music during mid 90โ€™s, 1996 to be exact, then my very first alias was born under the name of Breaker Poker aka DJ Koink. I was a lucky guy to work in a vinyl shop in Avignon (France) from 2001 till 2005, specialized in Bass Music. That helped me to discover a bit more in depth the UK bass music culture. I remember the first time I heard Jungle Music, I had shivers! That was incredible for me. Since then I wanted to know more about Jungle – thanks Roni Size! And the music production came in 2005 after a sound engineer/music school in Marseille.

Greg: Electronic music has been in my life since I was 10. I remember listening to some techno tapes like Nยฐ1 Techno or Techno .com in my mumโ€™s car! And on an other side Thunderdome CDโ€™s in my bedroom. Then time flies and Iโ€™ve met some friends that were DJโ€™s or producers and started to create some Drum N Bass/Hardcore beats on Fruity Loops 3 Demo for fun, that was in 2005 too. Then the next year, my father passed away and I decided to get more seriously into music to find a way to express myself. three years later, The S.K. was born and changed into TheSK, nowadays a solo alias. Producing and Djing went at the same time, Iโ€™ve learn on vinyls and tried CDโ€™s, controllers and now leaved the DJ part to focus my home studio, making beats and mastering.

During 2009, we met over the internet thanks to a friend, also a producer called Hubwar. We finally met up in the studio and BPSK was born!

You are originally from France but have been here as well, what did you do in the UK?

Yes, we are from France but for some personnel and professionals reasons, Greg moved to Belgium.

Bernard: In 2012, I entered a remix contest with Virus Syndicate – The Sign, and I had the chance to win it. That helped me to get in touch with Virus Syndicate. I have wanted to go to UK for a while, so I decided to meet up with Goldfinger Mc and spend a month in here. That was such a wicked experience; go to parties and say Hi to talented artists such as Dub Phizix, Strategy, Skittles, Skeptical, DRS, Dj Hype, Danny Bird, Jadeโ€ฆ I was feeling like a kid in a Lego Store!

bpskAre you planning to come back to the UK soon?

Bernard: Yes, I really fell in love with UK DnB a long time ago. Now it’s time for me to get closer for my love for UK culture and meet the people and friends I now have there. The idea of leaving France for UK is growing in my mind…

Iโ€™ll be back! I love UK!

Greg: Iโ€™d like to go there with him, but I have to admit that I love my comfort so much and sadly my job is taking a lot of time, but hopefully itโ€™ll change in the next months.

Do you produce other genres than drum&bass as well?

Yes, we are making different music styles such as Dubstep and other similar styles. And weโ€™re both in love with Techno and those kind of grooves. We’re owing a label under the name of Datalab Records. A bit on the side at the moment to keep focus on our projects.

Data Synchro is our techno alias, we really wanted to make things clear with 2 alias.

And Gregโ€™s solos aliases, as a good schizophrenic;ย techno and hiphop.

How would you describe your music?

Itโ€™s kinda hard to describe what we do.ย Weโ€™re a bit multiple faced producers, making different styles, doing different style.
Weโ€™ll just let you do your own judging by reading and listening to the links.

You have done a free track for us, thank you for that! What can you tell us about it?

Yes, and weโ€™re pleased to make this exclusive one for you, called ยซ Double Faced ยป.

This one is something that really show what we like. Atmospheric intros, easy but effective drop. Weโ€™re not looking for complexity in our tracks, but weโ€™re trying to reach people with something catchy and groovy.

You DJ as well, what type of set do you usually play?

Bernard: I mostly play Drum N Bass, but sometimes other styles. To me the most important thing is what I can give to the crowd.

Greg:ย I like djing all the music styles I love, but Iโ€™ve got my preference for dark and slow techno.

What’s more fun: djing or producing?

Bernard:ย No doubt: Djing! Iโ€™m so happy to see people dancing at my sets, I never want it to stop!

Greg:ย Opposite to Bernard: producing. I enjoy djing, but I feel more free in my studio, making the exact thing I want to do, listening to the same loop for hours and hours to make it better. And Im also attracted by technics production and my mastering job more than djing.

What’s next for BPSK?

Some big projects on the way, but we keep them secret for the moment!

Any famous last words?

Bernard: ยซ Drum n bass is not a music, itโ€™s a religion ยป

Greg: ยซ Groovy baby! ยป

Big up!
