After a long break and – yes – the outbreak of a p*ndemic, Próximo finally returns, for its biggest, best and most flexing rinse-out to date. This is going to be a revelatory and ecstatic return to the dance, with the kings and queens of Techno, Jungle, Breakbeat, Braindance and DnB rocking out across Corsica Studios’ two mighty Funktion-1 rigs, reminding us all what we’ve been missing out on for so long. We cannot wait to be raving with you again, IRL, at our favourite venue in London and the world…

Heading up the billing is one of the true pioneers and undisputed heavyweight champions of the UK underground, Surgeon, whose career spans four decades, countless clubs and festivals, a bunch of the scene’s best labels, and one sound: jamming, belting, face-melting Techno, built to blow yer bins and fry yer brains. Whether it’s pounding multi-deck DJ sets, crunching modular live jams, Surgeon brings a focus and intensity to his craft to match his chosen name – and he’ll be slicing Corsica up tonight in typically unique and brutal fashion. Are you ready?

Equally pioneering, and equally, massively rinsing, he’s joined by King of the Amens and breatbeat originator, Dillinja, responsible for some of the most innovative and damaging soundsystem music ever created. His work, beginning ‘91 at the peak of Rave 1.0, spans vital labels – Metalheadz, Prototype, V Recordings and his own Valve imprint, which also happens to be one of the planet’s heaviest rigs – a host of white label self-releases, and, yes, the classic Hardcore, Jungle and DnB sound/s, placing him at the top of many ravers’ all-time-great lists. Remixes for Bowie, Bjork and Soul II Soul and gigs at Glasto, Exit and Outlook (as well as Corsica, too) testify to his nex lev talents, so come catch him tonight – you really don’t know!

The drumz, the bass, the breaks keep on coming with Total Science, who go right the way back with Dilly, beginning ‘91 with assorted solo ‘ardcore ventures and evolving into today’s revered, badmanstyle two-piece DnB outfit. Their productions, found on their impressive C.I.A imprint, Metalheadz and associated UK mainstays, stretch rigs as far as anything else out there, and their skills – in the studio and on the dex – have seen them hit No. 1 in the UK Dance charts, branch out into hip-hop/soul territories, and tour the world. Expect a militant, vibing brock-out from them.
And Djinn, one of the best and brightest Junglists around right now, rolls thru from Manchester, repping Formless, Foundation X and Repertoire with vagrant riddims and mutant steppers, designed for smoked-out backrooms and sweaty festivals alike. Her uncompromising sets, honed since the mid-’00s, have become renowned within the nuskool 170 scene(s), earning her slots at clubs and parties across the UK, Europe and beyond, including regular appearances for continuum-continuing London bassfests Rupture and AKO, and a mint mix CD for the latter. Nuff respect!

Complementing the Techno-Jungle heaviness, a clutch of friends and locals, whose musics we love, bring it down (and up again) with expanded electronix, IDM, Acid and Electro ruffness, built for banging rigs and all-nite licences.

Rinsing out the tuffjams, Ben Pest – of Don’t, I Love Acid and OverworX – will play a specially prepared, all-new live set for us, filtering all of the genres mentioned into a bulging dose of sonic meat, delivered loud an’ nasty. Datassette will likewise fire bullets and drop bombs, with a pinging uptempo DJssette drawing on years of hardkore listening, collecting, making and releasing (for Ai, CPU and his own Misc.Works, among others). Esoteric and innovative producer/DJ Wordcolour will air a ruffneck selection of new and unreleased hybrid concoctions, the likes of which grace his mind-bending, genre-blending Houndstooth EP. And Moy debuts a brand-new hybrid live set, full of locked-groove slammers and capital-B-Bangers – for the ravers not the posers.

In support, ‘ackney-based comrade of the dance and electronic avantgardist Mücha, whose dreamy analogue popscapes can be found on Broken20, Blank Editions and Misc., brings a selection of her finest records down to drop; the mysterious Mr. Seavers will be heating things up with a broken and bouncy opening set; and resident vinylists Mans – that’s Próximo host Luke Handsfree and Agent of the Culture Industry Max Tengui, to you – hold the fort(ress) with genre-fluid beats, FX and ambients. Ewf.

We’ll be running from 10pm–6am, like ‘the old days’, and operating as sensibly as we can under the circumstances (see Covid info below). Game? Then grab a ticket and come fling yourself around with us. We’re absolutely HYPED. ❤

Próximo. Is. Back.
