Throughout June, we celebrate UK Dance music’s most dynamic period- the decade of pirate radio. It was a time characterised as a melting pot for the creation of what is now known as the London sound, taking you through the genres of: jungle, garage, grime, dubstep, UK funky and beyond.

Cast yourself back to a time when stations were at risk from both the Police and rival stations battling to pledge allegiance to a viciously talented roster of MCs and selectors.

Our first date, Friday 1st June, showcases the early days of piracy and one of the most integral genres to come out the capitalโ€™s airwaves- Jungle (1994-1999). Stations like Kool FM (Kool London), broadcasted this emerging sound, a mash up of hardcore, ragga and hip hop, from homemade transmitters and antennas from the roofs of Hackneyโ€™s council flats.

Becoming the soundtrack to a colossal number of young brits, Jungle gave birth to the likes of Shy FX, Andy C, Goldie, Dillinja, Grooverider, LTJ Bukem, Ed Rush, DJ Hype, DJ Zinc & Wax Doctor, Ragga Twins, Jungle Fever, Blusey G, Skibadee, Tekka, Chrissy Criss, Eastman.

Pioneering the electronic music scene since 1989, DJ Randall was a mainstay on Londonโ€™s pirate stations and illegal raving rostar. One of the earliest DJs to really coin the early jungle sound, Randall has worked alongside and influenced everyone from Andy C, Goldie and Fabio to Grooverider.

Randallโ€™s flawless technical ability and sublime selection earnt him huge notoriety in the jungle scene with his โ€˜Metalheadz History of Jungle mixโ€™ becoming something of legend. On this note, Metalheadz linchpin Diverge joins the lineup. We couldnโ€™t be in better company.
