Let’s start from the beginning – who are you and how did it all start?
Method Twenty Four is a group originating from Corsham, Wiltshire but mainly working in Bristol. We own a custom sound system as well as promoting events in Bristol, mainly dnb events however we also span out to hip hop and dubstep. As well as this we run a small, tight nit agency with artists such as Grey code, Mystic State, GROUND, Taelimb, Wingz, Transparent and a few others.
I think it all began when we were around 15 years old, we were lucky enough to have loads of mates who were already in the dnb scene (Mystic State who at the time were putting stuff out on Flexout Audio) which heavily influenced us. Then because we weren’t old enough to get into clubs we got ourselves some speakers and began running small free parties in local spots.
What is your background in the drum&bass/jungle scene?
Again, our background stems from most of our older mates who I guessed we looked up to at the time. They were producing drum and bass and we kind of got into it that way.
Where does the name come from?
The name comes from an old crew tag used for graffiti writing, we just liked writing the letters MTF and then needed them to stand for something so came up with ‘Method Twenty Four’.
Do you guys remember your first rave?
Other than the parties we first did my first proper rave was Ebola Ball Halloween free party in 2014, it was a crazy illegal rave in the centre of Bristol in some huge warehouse. There were thousands of people and the stack of speakers was ridiculous.
Then the first legal rave was when we were 17, some promoters asked us to bring some amps to Lakota in Bristol for a jungle event, (can’t remember the name). In the end our amps broke and the main room didn’t have any power!
Do you DJ as well?
A couple of us mix and have began to learn to produce music on Abelton, we will hopefully start putting out some of our own music in the next year or so!
Favourite venue and favourite rave?
Jesse: My favourite venue is The Black Swan, it’s just so nitty and you can bring the biggest system you can think of into there. My favourite rave was probably the dispatch takeover at the void stage on the last night of Outlook 3 years ago.
River: My favourite club is The Trinity Centre, it’s an old church with high ceilings and a large space, always has a great atmosphere and the thick walls means it’s normally pretty loud.
My favourite rave was probably our own ‘MethoDNB 04’ we’d put so much work and time into it and when it came down to the night it just popped off. All the dj’s smashed it and the place was packed all night.
How do you choose the DJs for your line up?
Mostly we just book artists who we listen to and think others will like, we always try promote new comers that others may not have heard of before but you have to find a balance between big / new names to draw in the crowds.
When is the next one and what can we expect?
Our next event is The Connections LP Launch party for The Chikara Project. If you haven’t already checked out The Chikara Project, you should. The event features several artists from our agency as they all feature on the LP. Going to be a really sick night and will be the first time we have run our entire system together so will be pumping for sure.
Dream line up?
There are so many I could pick from but if we had to narrow it down to 6 or so would probably be Alix Perez, Skeptical, Randall, Arkaik, Bredren and GROUND. GROUND is pretty new to the scene but he’s definitely one to watch out for and his mixes are insane!
What’s the goal?
Eventually we would like to have our own stages at festivals and run boat parties at the likes of Outlook festival. We will just keep growing our sound system and agency roster, hopefully one day we will be able to fully live off of music, I think that’s the main goal.
What’s next for MTF?
Our next big move is Methodnb05 on the 2nd of Feb at The Black Swan. Line up includes some really good artists like Xtrah and QZB as well as a BNKR takeover.
We’re also expanding the agency trying to find new emerging talents and push their music!
Any famous last words or shout outs?
Big up to all the artists on our agency, and to all the people to that come to our events and support us. It’s a special feeling when you’ve put months of work into an event and then to see it go down and see everyone loving it!
