Exclusive Guest Mix and Interview: Dungeon Master

Hello Dungeon Master! Who are you?dm

I am a producer/dj from Bradford, UK and have been involved in the music scene for over 25 years.

Tell me about your name…  My name was given to me by a man called Sooty while I was djing on a pirate radio station (PCR fm, Bradford). He took one look at me and called me ‘Dungeon Master’. I liked it and have kept it since.

How did you end up in the drum&bass/jungle scene and what do you love about the music?

From a young age I loved reggae and also techno music. A combination of these has probably contributed to how I feel about Jungle and Drum & Bass. The reggae vibes and vocals along with the hard synth sounds from techno are heard in both Jungle and Drum & Bass. I also love the breakbeats which have had a massive impact on the scene. I have love and passion for the scene, always will, it’s in my blood.

Do you mainly produce drum&bass, or are you experimenting with other genres as well? I mainly produce Drum & Bass but do occasionally produce other genres like Rnb, Dub, Chill or even House.

How would you describe your music? Well my name is Dungeon Master so based on that my music is generally dark with heavy beats or experimental.

You have a forthcoming release on Vivid Sounds called ‘Darkness EP’, what can you tell us about it ?

Darkness was the vibe i was feeling for a while and so i put an EP together giving 4 differents flavours.

What’s your favourite track from it? Riddence is my favourite because of its drumming elements and wet synths which i love.

Any other forthcoming releases? I have a 4 track EP called ‘ Original Badman’ coming soon on Flex Records.

Do you prefer to work by yourself or to collab with other producers, MCs or vocalists?

I mainly prefer to work on my own, but also like to collab with others. Im currently looking for vocalists to work with and also have a couple of other producers im going to collab with in the pipeline.

I know this is a hard questions but who is your all time favourite drum&bass/jungle producer? Calibre.

You have also done a guest mix for us, thank you so much! What can you tell us about it? Well, its’ straight from the hard hitting darkside with a few of my own tracks in there too.

What else can we expect from Dungeon Master in 2015/2016? Im hoping to produce an album and to Dj more too.

Any famous last words? Big respect to all involved in keeping the scene alive.
