Disco77 Review: High Contrast – The First Note Is Silent / Fearful Symmetry

I must say I’ve been waiting a little while to talk about this one!

Why you ask?

It’s probably one of the most controversial entries into this world of Drum and Bass that we love this year. To be honest, this isn’t much of a review. It’s more a blog post/commentary on events as I’ve seen them leading us up to the release of this record.

So where do we start?

It’s been a long time since Lincoln Barrett gave us anything under his High Contrast monkier and when news of this collaboration filtered through the grapevine, we all awaited with baited breath. Read More

Dispatch Recordings 10 Years: Ant TC1

The title says it all really. Dispatch Recordings are celebrating 10 years, Ant TC1 will tell you the story…

So Ant, tell me how it all started 10 years ago!
It was Hidden Agenda who originally started the whole thing off with me learning the ropes initally and supporting him where I could, Jason from Hidden Agenda then had a change of plans and started a family so he asked me to take it over fully and here I am now!

In which ways have the scene changed in your opinion? Both for you as a DJ but also having a record label.

The internet has changed it all MASSIVELY and the way people buy, not as many people hunt for music any more like they did in the old days, most get it presented to them via the internet and choose from a big bundle of digital music and click and buy!

How would you describe the process of getting a tune/artist out on your label? Do you contact the artists or do they come to you?

Its a bit of both really, sometimes I’ve helped artists finish stuff off and given them some feedback on getting a track where i felt it needs to be for the better of the track and others have come out of nowhere and i’ve been more than overwhelmed on first listen, the main thing for me is regardless of the process we get that track to that quality bar or that point we think it needs to be at.

I Know Where To Go

Thursday again and another weekend filled with drum and bass raves! I don’t know if it’s because it’s getting dark but there is a lot of raves these last months of 2011. And yes, what better way to ignore the cold and dark outside than to go raving? OK, the bit where you’re actually going TO the rave you have to face the reality (and maybe the way back but find a new ‘friend’ and share a cab instead…) and when you’re inside, you’re warm and sweaty and it feels like your favourite season. It’s Halloween this weekend as well so don’t forget to put that fancy dress/war paint/vampire costume on and celebrate… something something… Oh, well. Who cares what it is we’re celebrating when the celebrating is the best part? HEY HO, LET’S GO!

Hospital 158 with special guest presenter High Contrast

Hello, you may have noticed my site is in the process of having a rejig. That’s because the wheels are now officially turning in anticipation of my new album, out early next year. And the release of the first single from that album is almost ready to drop.

Exciting times, not just because it’s been about 3 years since my last single but because I’ve brought in not one but two heavyweight collaborators to make it even more special.

The track is called ‘The First Note Is Silent’ and features both Tiesto AND Underworld. So you can imagine how blooming epic it’s turned out. It will be released on October 31st but you can hear the world first radio play this Friday on the Annie Mac show on BBC Radio 1.

The b side is a tune called ‘Fearful Symmetry’, something fans of my club and festival shows should be familiar with from some of my recent gigs.

Check back here on the site for updates on the whole album project – and I’ll be unleashing the insane music video I’ve been filming for ‘The First Note Is Silent’ on here very soon!

Blu Mar Ten – Love Is The Devil – Out Monday 31st October 2011

Release Date: 31st Oct 2011
Label: Blu Mar Ten
CatNo: BMTCD002 / BMTDDLP003 / BMTLP002
FORMAT: Vinyl / CD / Digital
Distribution: ST Holdings

Press release:
Love is the Devil is Blu Mar Ten’s follow-up to the runaway success of previous album, Natural History and showcases another development in the trio’s consistent work at the cutting edge of Drum & Bass, musically, conceptually and technically.
From the epic vistas of Into the Light, the intricate musicality of All Thoughts Are Prayers, the brooding darkness of Hollow Men, the sweetness of High Hopes, the shockingly technical Blue Skies and the ethereal Sweet Little Supernova, the album represents two years of solid work and delivers 18 tracks of pure quality from every known corner of the genre and some that have yet to be invented.
Love is the Devil is another step in Blu Mar Ten’s mission to stretch Drum & Bass into new forms; sometimes beautiful, sometimes poignant, sometimes aggressive but always lovingly crafted.

The album sees its release this coming Monday. If you buy directly from the Blu Mar Ten shop, you get the vinyl, cd and all 18 tracks in mp3 format for £13. Featuring collaborations with a range of talent including Kirsty Hawkshaw, Stray, Airwalker and InsideInfo, it’s well worth picking up.
